Our Story
Hello,
I’m Krish Panjta, and I come from a small mountain village called Brall, nestled deep in Rohru subdivision of Shimla district. Here, apples aren’t just fruits—they’re a way of life.
But things weren’t always this way.
Before apples came to our hills, farmers like us mostly grew potatoes. That’s what this land was known for. Wheat was rare due to the harsh winters; what little we grew was of poor quality—dark, coarse, and heavy rotis were a common sight in every home.
Then came the apples.
In the early 1900s, when Satyanand Stokes planted the first apple trees near Kotgarh, a quiet transformation began. It reached our small village too. And that’s where my family’s apple journey started.
It was my great-grandfather who first took the bold step. He planted our first apple trees in Brall, replacing potato fields with tiny saplings. Back then, apples were packed in wooden boxes, similar to how mangoes are packed today. Those apples were sold under the brand name ‘TO’ and transported all the way to Delhi, as that was the only major mandi available at the time.
With time, my grandfather carried forward the dream. He expanded the orchards, improved techniques, and sold apples under the name ‘SGM’. His dedication helped solidify apple farming as our family’s legacy.
But it was my father who truly transformed our orchards. He modernized our approach—bringing in grading machines, sorting technologies, and better storage methods, all while keeping the core of our traditional methods alive. His contribution shaped the orchards we proudly own today.
For years, our apples were sent to Delhi, then later to Chandigarh, and gradually to smaller markets like Shimla. Packaging that once relied on manual sorting by hand was upgraded to mechanical systems, making the process efficient but still close to our hands.
But here’s the harsh truth:
Despite growing top-quality apples, we farmers are forced to sell at very low rates in the mandis. Meanwhile, when our apples reach city markets, even average or below-average quality apples are sold at prices like ₹300, ₹350, or even ₹360 per kilogram—prices many customers assume reflect the best quality.
In reality, the best apples—our best harvest—often never reach common buyers. They’re either exported to countries like UAE, Saudi Arabia, and South Korea, or reserved for luxury hotels.
That’s why I founded Red Crunch.
Through Red Crunch, I want to deliver our finest apples directly from our family orchards to your home—no middlemen, no compromises, no inflated prices. Whether it’s apples meant for exports, top-tier hotels, or the finest retail shelves, I believe every family deserves access to the best. At real, honest prices.
